Trick: Create Shutdown or Restart buttons on your desktop or taskbar

Tired of the annoying way to reach the hidden shutdown or restart buttons?

    Me too.

There is a very easy way to create quick direct buttons to shutdown or restart and place them on your desktop or your taskbar.

I placed them on my quickstart bar to the left. I made my own icons.

    See here:

If you want to know how, do this, it is extremely easy:

Shutdown button: Shut Down Computer Shortcut - Create - Windows 7 Forums
Restart button: Restart Computer Shortcut - Create - Windows 7 Forums

Thanks for that. I've been lazy with doing something about that. Just saw your post and said to myself, "Now is the time."

heh I keep the shortcut on on my desktop next to my weather gadget.

Care to share your icons? I'm sure others will appreciate it too.

Actually I moved them to the Start Menu. Perfect at two clicks as always and not annoying on the desktop or taskbar.

Sure. Here they are. Shutdown Restart icons.zip

But you must copy them to C:\Windows\System32 or the change of icon won't work (at least for me) (maybe just enough if you place them in any folder in C:\) (it didn't work when I tried with icons from my D:\ partition)

What about the power button on your PC/Laptop?

Not 100% certain about this , but most modern BIOS's handle this by default don't they?

There is also a control panel gadget that does this and a few more most wanted buttons on the desktop:

Yes. One click mostly sleep, 4 seconds forced off.
"Choose what power button do" on power option in control panel 100% works as whatever we set it to.
