Okay, so apparently my "Programmer" folder on C:\ changed to "Program Files". I live in Denmark, so the system is danish. The folder "Program Files" used to be named "Programmer", but somehow it changed to "Program files". It is weird, becuase that my other x86 folder is still named "Programmer (86)". It's kinda annoying, please help me somebody!!!
:(:(:(:(

Can anybody give me some tips and tricks, on how to rename it back?

I would be really happy! :)

THANKS!!!

That's a System folder and needs to be called Program Files. Ditto for Program Files (X86). I'm surprised the X86 folder hasn't renamed itself yet.

Did you somehow or at some point work with English on that computer or install English version of a program? Maybe got an English update?

If Windows is the 32-bit version you'll have only Program Files but the 64-bit version will have both Program Files and Programs Files (x86), or the local language-in-use of each.

Well for some programs like Photoshop, Malwarebytes etc. the english language is installed. I have Windows 8.1 64bit, and I have both Program Files and Program Files (86).

I haven't really downloaded any updates in a small amount of time..

My OS language is Danish. My Program Files (86) folder is called Programmer (86), which is correct. My other Program Files folder was supposed to be called Programmer, but it automaticly renamed itself to Program Files.. I can't rename it :(

All Windows system files, folders and built-in applications and tools are always named in English and you as the user should not change them to your language.

Using my native Finnish as an example, this is how Windows localization is done:

To give me more localized experience, Windows uses links in Finnish to point to files, folders, apps and tools. Opening the C: drive in File Explorer shows Ohjelmatiedostot (Finnish for Program Files) and Ohjelmatiedostot (x86) (Finnish for Program files (x86)) folders. As I have relocated the main user profile folder to drive E:, when I open that drive it shows me folder Käyttäjät (Users). However, Ohjelmatiedostot and Käyttäjät are not real folders but instead localized links pointing the real folders which due system integrity must always have their original English names, Program Files and Users in this case. This can be clearly seen for instance when comparing the File Explorer view and Command Prompt view:

Check yourself: Using File Explorer, go to your Brugere (Users in Danish) folder. You can see the localized name and path shown in addressbar as here using my Finnish Windows as an example:

2014-07-07_12h44_02.png

Now click within the addressbar to see the real, absolute folder name and path and you will notice that although I think I am in Käyttäjät folder, I am in fact in Users folder instead:

2014-07-07_12h46_24.png

This applies to all system folders. Another example: I go to a user folder called Tiedostot (Finnish for Documents). Explorer shows the localized path and folder (link) name:

2014-07-07_12h50_14.png

Clicking the addressbar I can see the absolute path and folder name instead:

2014-07-07_12h50_51.png

One example using an app. In All Apps view I search for Laskin (Finnish for Calculator). I can search it using its localized Finnish name Laskin because Windows has created a localized link to Calculator, or using its real English name Calculator:

2014-07-07_13h02_33.png

Checking the properties of Laskin clearly shows that it is just a link in Finnish pointing to an application with the original application name Calc.exe, the name this app de facto has in any language version of Windows:

2014-07-07_13h05_03.png

The same with all built-in Windows apps, for instance my Finnish Windows shows an app called Muistio but searching the computer there is no such app; instead Muistio is a localized Finnish link referring to an app with English name Notepad. Again, in all apps view I can search this app using either its localized link name Muistio or original English name Notepad

To summarize:
Windows system files, folders, apps and tools are always named in English. If Windows is installed using any other language than English, the system creates localized links to all these files, folders, apps and tools so the user could see everything in his / her own language.

When using File Explorer you will by default see the folder, app and tool names in your language, in your case in Danish and in my case in Finnish. However these are only links to allow you to have a more completely localized Windows experience, the real folders and apps have English names.

As a user you should never change these system names. Your File Explorer will and should show Programme link which points to Program Files folder, as well as the Brugere link which points to Users folder and so on. This is how Windows functions by design, it is not an issue but instead a system created to give you more localized Windows experience.

Kari, that should be a pinned response somewhere or a tutorial on language localization. Excellent.

These localization features, how it functions is quite often misunderstood, even among quite experienced geeks.

One more screenshot to explain this a bit more. As an example in this screenshot is the Users folder, but this applies to all system folders using localized names (Program Files, Users, Documents, Videos, Pictures, Music, Documents, Downloads, Favorites, Saved Games and so on), all native Windows apps (Calculator, Notepad, Task Scheduler, Device Manager and so on) as well as tools and such (Control Panel elements like Display, System, Sound and so on).

The localized name is just a link, kind of shortcut to a system folder, application or tool which always have de facto English names to assure Windows functionality.

I suggest you to check the following link:

I gess that ther desktop.ini file inside your program files folders is damaged/deleted....

Welcome to the forum!

I'm guessing since the OP is 4 months old the problem is solved. Sadly, many posters don't return to mark a problems as solved.

I may be missing something but there's a few Folders that are default to a Windows installation and have not seen that changeable except maybe by reprogramming Windows itself. One such Folder is Program Files on 32-bit Windows, two others are Programs Files plus Program Files (x86) on 64-bit Windows. Another is Users. There cannot be two or more Folders of the exact same name in the root of the HDD [x:\] or as subFolders or two or more files of the same name in the same Folder.

In this case if the Programmers Folder holds installed programs Windows may be over-riding the name change.

Please read Post #7 by Kari. It explains how the "other" language names work. Here is a quick quote but read Kari's post for a complete explanation.
In the OP situation the "Program Files" folder is still there but the "Programmer" link is missing.

To summarize:
