Yeah, that is the one that I have right now, I think. Still fairly old.

So far, no luck on finding drivers for anything resembling my Ricoh card reader. Dell seems to have stopped putting them in their laptops so that is probably a pretty good clue that Ricoh has discontinued support for them.
The shame is that Windows Update has a 2009 driver, but I can't edit its inf to install for you...driver enforcement will stop it from happening and that is probably more trouble to have to deal with now lol.

Instead, you can install this 2008 intended by the manufacturer for your device, so there will be no x64 enforecement issues at all.

Just install using the device manager and it should go fine.
Ok, that seems to have done the trick.

I am getting a ton of administrative errors. I will keep a log of when I notice a lock up and try to match them to the appropriate event. Some of these are due to my doing a reset when I hang up...

Turned off system restore on my C drive.. Some poster said that fixed it for them... removed my HID keyboard in Device manager too.
BTW, this is really an issue as it is being reported on several websites besides here... Lots of folks are having some success with driver updates...

So far I haven't had any freezes after getting rid of the IR receiver, finding a driver for the coproccessor and disabling scheduled defrag. I have to go to class now but I will leave my pappy running in my room and see if it hangs while I am gone.

Dammit! Computer just froze again. This time it was one of those deals where the cursor disappears shortly after the thing stops responding...

[CRASH] Once a week my new pc freezes and the mouse pointer disappears

Interesting. Someone has had the same problem that I am having, only with Win7. No solution was posted, however...

    EDIT: Here is another one.

Windows completely freezing. What could this be?

That is exactly the same problem I am having, except on Win7 and on a different laptop.

    HDD/HDD Controller problem?

The closest problem I had to what you're describing, was a dodgy SATA controller/port on my MB.

I have 3 HDDs (1x OS HDD, 2x data HDDs).
My PC would lock up for 10 - 15 seconds, whenever I tried to access on one of my data HDDs.
I eventually found a SATA port combination that didn't lock up.

Nope, I have a different freeze. All my windows stop responding, anything going to the hard drive stops, but the mouse will still move the cursor and cntrl-alt-del gets to the log off/task manager screen. No mouse clicks work tho, nor does the keyboard respond...
