Windows 8 gremlins

When I tried to install those drivers, it said that I already had newer drivers installed. I think I'm on like 15.2.20. Should I uninstall those drivers and install the ones you provided?

EDIT: Either way, here is the latest crash dump:

Well, MY gremlins are back. I plugged in a set of USB headphones (last thing I did anyways) and now my computer hangs up. I can tell when things are amiss when the keyboard and mouse have no effect and when I mouse over the taskbar I get a line instead of a cursor... Nothing to do but to push the reset button. At least that works... One thing I was doing when it IMMEDIATELY hung up was to copy a bunch of files from one place to another. Also, when my screen is turned off, I cannot wake it with a keypress.

EDIT Freakin' HELL when the damn computer locks up doing jack s... I was just typing some comment and machine locks up. I unplugged my USB headphones to see if the problem goes away (fingers crossed) but if this continues, back to Win7 for me..

EDIT: Nope, not headphones. I am running a huge torrent tho and the last time I locked up was during a ton of hard drive copying. Hard drives timing out?

Holy crap...you actually have done fairly well. The NVIDIA driver is the new one that I gave. (Rarely happens on first try heh.)

    ---------

Ricoh card reader drivers are still old, but newer and better than what you had.

This driver hasn't been changed and is still active. You can try going to safe mode, renaming it in C:\Windows\System32\drivers to itecir.bak then reboot.

When you get to normal mode, something might complain but that's fine for now. We're just testing to see if things are stable without it. You could eventually rename it to original, update it or completely rid of it. We'll see how it goes.

There may not be any newer version of those drivers. The card reader on my laptop works fine (it doesn't freeze when I plug in something). As for the Ifrared drivers, I couldn't find a newer version of those drivers and when I pressed uninstall and rebooted, the device was still there.

I will try renaming the file by booting to my Win 7 partition.

EDIT: Ok, once I booted back into 8, it gave me the option to disable the ir reciever in the device manager. It shouldn't be giving me any more trouble. I don't know anyone who even uses those damned things...

I will continue to search for a newer Ricoh driver.

I think it is also worth noting that in device manager, the only device that has a warning icon next to it is the "Coprocessor". I have no idea what driver would handle that. Any ideas?

Yeah, that too is from the NVIDIA chipset. I don't think it is causing the problems but it's just a "think" - it may.

We can install a driver for that. I helped someone a few days ago with the same thing. In device manager, right click it. Properties. Details tab. Change the dropdown to say hardware ids. Copy/paste the results. Hopefully I can find something to install because you're x64. I can't edit .infs for you unless there will be a whole process involving driver enforcement.

It's probably the "Nvidia nForce System Management Controller".

Possible solution: win8 Disk drive defragmentation constantly running:

K, just turned it off. Let's see what happens...

EDIT: Nope, no luck. Just hung up... Going to see if my two other drives sleeping (have 3 installed) are some sort of issue.

Those are the 4 entries under hardware ID's

So far, no luck on finding drivers for anything resembling my Ricoh card reader. Dell seems to have stopped putting them in their laptops so that is probably a pretty good clue that Ricoh has discontinued support for them.

The shame is that Windows Update has a 2009 driver, but I can't edit its inf to install for you...driver enforcement will stop it from happening and that is probably more trouble to have to deal with now lol.

Instead, you can install this 2008 intended by the manufacturer for your device, so there will be no x64 enforecement issues at all.

Just install using the device manager and it should go fine.
