    Background Windows responding to clicks

    Hi anyone,

I have an issue with Windows 8. Whenever I have used past Windows operating systems, left clicking on a window in the background only brought that window to the front. However, with Windows 8, when I click on a background window to bring it to the front, the window that I am trying to bring front responds to the click on the page. How do I make it so that when I click anywhere on a background window, it ONLY brings it front and does not respond to the click?

Hello Ryan, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Setting to use double clicks to open an item instead of a single click should sort that for you.

Thank you for your response, but background windows are still responding to my mouse click when they are in the background.

Just to clarify, what do you mean by "respond to the click" to help determine what's happening?

Sorry for the confusion. So, normally when you want to bring a window that is in the background to the front you click once on it to bring it to the front and then click again to navigate from there.
    I'll give an example.
Let's say I have both Chrome and Excel open. My excel window is on top of the chrome window. I can still see the chrome window behind the excel. If I want to bring chrome in front of excel, I click on the chrome window. But, let's say there is a hyperlink on the chrome window and my mouse clicks the part of the window where the link is, the window will move to the front, BUT the link will open at the same time. I want there to be one click on the back window that ONLY brings it to the front and then another click navigates.

I hope this makes sense. This was a feature I clearly took for granted.

Ok. I see what you mean now.

That's not an issue for other items, but I'm not sure that can be turned off for URL links.

A workaround you might give a try is to set to activate a window by hovering over it with the pointer.

Wow! Thanks! That's actually a VERY effective solution.
