Stuck Modern UI icons on the taskbar

There are some times when I close a ModernUI app using a method that may not be common, in this case, the Windows Task Manager.

So I would load a ModernUI app, for example... PC Settings. I would then load the Windows Task Manager (the built-in one, not a third-part task manager such as Process Explorer by SysInternals). I would then find the program's task and then right-click on it and choose "End task". The full-screen window disappears as you would expect it to disappear but here's where the bug shows, the icon for PC Settings still stays in the Task Bar. I have to hover over the icon with my mouse, let Aero Peek appear, and then click the X button there to have the icon disappear from the Task Bar.

This also happens when I close an app when the app is windowed using ModernMix.

Sometimes I have to close an app this way because it locked up. I mentioned PC Settings because this seems to be an app that leaves its icon behind on the Task Bar when you force close the task in Task Manager.

This doesn't always happen, it seems that at random this bug will happen. It's like the taskbar isn't informed of the closure of the ModernUI app.

Does this make sense?

Tried that, there are still times when the icon stays on the taskbar even after I closed the app window. I just loaded the PC Settings full screen app, made it so that it loaded as a full screen app thus bypassing ModernMIX and then forced it to close via the Windows Task Manager and there it is... the icon is still there, stuck on the taskbar.

This has got to be a bug in Windows 8.1 Update 1.

I have put in place a bit of a hack to work around this bug which includes several changes.

First I told Windows to not put ModernUI app icons in the taskbar which is essentially what Windows 8.1 before Update 1 did.
Second, I then put in a special registry key for ModernMIX to have ModernMIX create the icons for the apps when running on the taskbar instead.
Third, I then re-created my pinned ModernUI apps on my taskbar.
Fourth, I then told ModernMIX to always open ModernUI apps as windowed apps instead of full screen apps.

Yes, this is a bit of a hackjob but overall, it works and makes sure that I don't have any possibility of a ghost ModernUI app icon left behind on the taskbar after closing it.

As long as it works and creates no problems, all the power to you.
