Solved Win8.1 InforPath Error

I am running Win8.1. When I try to open a file with a .HTM suffix, I get an InfoPath error indicating that something is wrong with the file. If I open my browser (FireFox) and open the file from "inside" Firefox, the file opens fine.

What is Info path? A brief web search suggests that it is related to forms and such. Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

Thanks

Thanks for the prompt reply. I did not ask the question clearly ...

I have 40 years experience with computers and am a webmaster on several web sites. I know lots about htm files and develop htm code daily. I know what InfoPath is within the MS Office suite of applications, i.e., it is essentially a forms generator that outputs xml files. I prefer to use the VBA forms capability integrated into the other office tools so I have not done much with InfoPath.

I am fairly new to Win8 and have not encountered a similar problem on any previous operating systems. I presently have three computers running WinXP and one running Win7. the same files that are problems on the Win8.1 system open fine on any of my other computers.

I have found the problem ... Win8 (at least as originally configured on my computer) associates all htm and html files with InfoPath (seems strange) or perhaps that happened when I loaded MS Office. Previous versions of Windows associated htm and html files with the default browser. I changed the default file association to be the default browser and everything now works as it should
