There are quite a number of new features in Windows 8, whether you describe them as advantages or otherwise, is for you to decide. Obviously it has the Metro Interface, which you need to use in order to assess it's viability. Here's some other features.

    System Recommendations - different scenarios

    ReFS
    UEFI
    Enhanced boot experience
    File History
    Faster boot/Shutdown
    Storage Spaces
    Live ID Sign in
    Cloud Synchronisation
    Refresh and reset
    Hyper - V
    New Task Manager

There's also a 'Ribbonised' Windows Explorer, new copy and paste, enhanced event tracing. additional device support, picture passwords etc.

I'm sure there are other features, so if anyone thinks of any please add to the list.

...but overall its pretty good for an early beta.
It is Beta, but Microsoft are not known for making code changes this late in the development cycle. I seriously wouldn't hold your breath for any additional changes. From here to RTM, it's likely to be bug fixes and tuning. I hope I'm wrong

Meh, I like Windows XP better.

So far. It feels faster or maybe it feels faster as this computer was originally vista but it feels faster than windows 7 even. But don't know how much that is true technically but I personally find it faster. And this computer is a pretty low end computer so I would say if they can get the requirements even lower and use even less resources that would be a huge advantage. Well to me anyway.

    Windows 8.1 x64

W8 is lighter and faster than W7 but I installed it in my old laptop too and it is too slow and too heavy. Not really functional, but I leave it for an emergency.

It is an Intel Celeron 1.6 GHz single core with 2GB RAM, but the graphic card is very bad.

However in this other laptop dual core I am running W8 x64 very fast while W7 x64 was slow.

Every computer is different and the graphic card counts a lot too.

Yes, but this is a public beta test, on a scale larger than any that went before - unless you are of the school of thought that says that Microsoft Windows releases are always beta until at least the first service pack

W8 is no where near as refined imho as W7 was for beta release.

Not to mention that when W7 dropped, the talk must have been 95% and up fully positive, hardly the case for W8. I used W7 beta first day and it was my OS from there on. W8 is no where close to that yet.

Windows 7 followed that 1-legged beauty, Vista, probably the biggest bubblehead in the Microsoft stables. It looked great but stumbled in the Paddock. Of course, beta opinions of 7 were positive.

Windows 7, like XP in its day, was a winner, a hard task to follow. Windows 8 is like Windows 95, trying to change the way that users think and operate, and like Windows 95 will get replaced by something that works much better.

If the past is anything to go by, Windows 10 will be the next XP, and if Redmond is in any way superstitious, will call it Windows X!
