Going by the comments on this Forum, Microsoft might as well shut up shop now, nobody knows how to use Windows 8, or just plain dont want to use it.
I think we'd better all start learning Mac because I fear for the future of Microsoft. Get used to buying hugely overpriced machines and not building your own anymore. These are dark days indeed.

You can't compare a phone and a computer, everyone have a computer, now they buy a phone because it's the trend, Microsoft fail the phone market, so peoples go to Apple and Android to purchase phones. Even NoKia dont sell well. Aside phone service provider give a phone for free if you sign a 3 years contract.

The attitude of the desktop user and the tablet user is different. I have a feeling that Windows 8 on a tablet actually is a better experience than an iPad. If the same experience is available on phone, tablet and desktop, then Microsoft may well be onto a winner. Despite being free to the user on a 3-year contract, the OEM pays the same sum to the OS manufacturer for the license as if you had bought the phone directly. That's what makes money for the OS manufacturers. Windows wants to compete with Android and Apple iPhone, and iPad. One thing that Windows has, and iPhone and Android don't, is a hardened security model and a means of coping with threats. When your phone is totally crippled by a virus, Windows Phone might seem like a good idea.

If Microsoft cant stem the tide of people going over to IOS, these people will eventually cross over to Mac. Apple is already integrating IOS into Mac to make it easier for people to migrate.
This is a last stand for Microsoft, if they fail here, they are going to fade into obscurity over the years. Innovation and cheap prices will go out the "Window".
Soon we might all be wearing turtlenecks.

Cheap price will be thing of the past with Windows 8, Microsoft will impose a 30% tax on Metro apps. Innovation? , they are copying Apple; “you want develop Metro Apps, well they gone have to be certified by us and sell by us" “ You want to sell Window 8 certified PC, well you have to block the BIOS to make sure nothing else run in it” Is it not similar to Apple ?

I think the blocking of the bios thing has already been abadoned (not real sure on that), although they're still doing it on ARM I believe, which is understandable in a way, as these are going to be lower powered machines.

Even with the 30% "tax" Apps are a lot cheaper than normal progs.

It probably is similar to Apple, just a lot cheaper to build and buy machines, and I can build a machine to whatever specs I want.

I find that hilarious on apple's behalf. A product that made them who they are to be shoved to the wayside for a giant itouch with a crispy screen and superfluous graphics chipset. Wow....and all for 500 dollars, about half the price of a mac with an i5 processor and the ability to actually have a file navigator in the OS.
