People tagging of photos using details pane

Hello.

I've been trying to re-organize my photo collection. Previously, I had been using Windows Live Photo Gallery to tag my photos, and admittedly it was convenient. Recently, though, the program has gone on the fritz to where thumbnails aren't loading so it's harder to differentiate photos simply by the file name in cases where I have a lot of photos of the same group or folder. While I've tried a lot of troubleshooting to get the thumbnails to load, and would gladly take advice on that issue, in the meantime I'm trying to accomplish the same thing using the details pane in explorer.

When I highlight a photo right now, most file types load the date stamp, tags, rating, author(s) and comments properties in the details pane. However, I'd like to edit the people properties so I can tag individuals in the photos. I have not seen a way to easily do that short of using other software (such as Photo Gallery).

Does anyone know if there's a way to do this through explorer or will it require a separate application?

You are talking about edit Exif data. There are programs out there that allow you to do that.

I'm aware there are other third party applications. My question was if there was a way to do it through the preview pane in Explorer. If there are programs that allow for editing through the preview pane itself, might you have specific names for them?

I tried going to the registry and adding the "People Names" category, though it was already added. It had an asterisk, though, and it seems that field cannot be edited through explorer. It only shows up as a field if it's already containing data and even then, wouldn't allow for editing.

No there is not. You need to do it with third party software.
