Right Click Items on desktop problem

Hi

I'm running Windows 8.1 and recently encountered a strange problem

When I right click on an item on my desktop (file /folder etc) the screen quickly goes blue (the same colour as my Windows tiles as if it is switching to tiled mode rather than desktop) then my desktop comes back up.

This also happens when I'm in a folder.

It has started happening this last week. It is an annoyance to me as I need to right click >>> rename files all the time for my work but it wont work. As a result I have to open the file and go through the save as process instead.

I have Avast and Malwarebytes Anti Malware - both have not picked up anything

Any ideas?

Is that a "real" mouse or a touchpad ?

Real mouse on a desktop non touchscreen PC

Did you check in "Mouse properties" ? Mouse drivers ?

What I should be looking for?

The update drivers is greyed which I assume means they're up to date

It doesn't seem to be a mouse issue as when I right click the sub menu pops up - it is when I click for eg 'rename' that the screen goes weird for a split second then back to the desktop

Hmmm, how about it if you change background color from Automatic to another, permanent one. ? There might be some slight delay while it checks which one to use.

Didn't work either I'm afraid. Just to clarify anything I do click on after right clicking doesn't work.

Something must have gone scroooowy with the system, why don't you try some of this medicine
