    Windows 8.1 Pro or Enterprise?

Hi all, I will clean install Windows 8.1x64, should I get the Enterprise or Pro version? It seems that the Enterprise has more features than the Pro but lacks the ability to install Windows Media Center. Thanks for your feedback

    Hello Antares,

It really depends on what features you need or want over the other versus cost. If you like, the two tutorials below can help you compare the features between the Windows 8/8.1 editions to help decide.

    Compare Windows 8 Editions

    Compare Windows 8.1 Editions

    Hope this helps.

If you are not using a Domain in your home. Windows Pro will fit all of your needs. As for Media Center. You are better going with one of the alternatives. Microsoft handicapped WMC for Windows 8.x.x really bad.

Thanks Brinks, I did read that comparison sheet before posting, and the Enterprise version has additional features that might be useful. Can Media Center be installed in the Enterprise version or only in the Pro?

What do you mean by handicapped? And what are the alternatives? Thanks

Unfortunately, media center can't be installed in the Enterprise edition.

Too bad, I guess I'll go with the Enterprise edition and use an alternative to Media Center. What is the best 3rd party Media Center software? I have a Synology NAS, is it better to run a media center in the NAS or from the PC? Thanks

Enterprise isn't for sale to consumers. Pro can join a domain. Which features in Enterprise are you so interested in?

Yes, I found that too, so I finally got Windows 8.1 Pro. I was mainly interested in the Windows To Go Enterprise feature. Any 3rd party for that?

One possible solution would be to create Windows ToGo without Enterprise.
