    windows 8.1 reset issues

Recently I bought a Sager np6658 with windows 8.1. It worked completely fine for about a week, then the trackpad stops working. I tried all kinds of stuff, and nothing fixed it; so, i figured I could do a reset and restore it to factory defaults since I didn't really have that much installed on it. BIG MISTAKE. I can no longer x out my apps at the top right corner, wifi capability is no longer an option; I can only do VPN and Ethernet, I can no longer shut down from the start menu, the brightness doesn't worker, the multi-touch gesture doesn't work, the computer and settings apps are gone, I can no longer see the windows 8 apps on the desktop control bar and probably countless other things I don't know about. Some damn pixels went dead at the bottom( probably unrelated). Is this an OEM or a Microsoft issue? Since I cant get wifi to work, I can't really use the computer. Any input would be very helpful.

Surely you had updated to Windows 8.1.1 at some point in time before doing the reset?
Try Windows Update and install every update you can get hold of (via Ethernet, it looks like it might be the only choice) and see if these features come back at a point or another.

Then, it's strange that some things like the WiFi are missing. IIRC when you reset you go back to factory defaults, why wouldn't an OEM include these drivers in the recovery image?

Try looking for any missing driver on the web page of the manufacturer and see if it helps... I've seen once a device that, if reinstalled from the factory DVD provided by the manufacturer, would miss network drivers and it was a DELL Vostro desktop (of which I don't remember the exact model...230, can it be?) so it's rare but it could happen. It happened with Windows 7 though.

If you updated to win 8.1.1 it is possible that the recovery partition got corrupted. This has happened quite often. You may have to order the recovery discs from the computed manufacturer.

    For now try sfc /scannow
SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8

If there are corrupted system files that cannot be repaired, you may use the DISM command and rerun the sfc command afterwards.
