windows 8 - does it offer photo editing ?

I have a Cannon Camera that i'm sure came with a cd for photo editing. I can't find that CD - (used it in XP) ... soooo is there anything within Windows 8 that offers croping/ sharpening, etc. etc. (in case i cannot get a replacement CD from Cannon). Thanks in advance - Edythe

Unfortunately, no. I really wish I could get back Microsoft Photo Editor. For what I did with it, it was the most useful thing I ever found. There is a free program called Irfanview which has been around for years that may work for you. It does a lot of other things as well.

Thanks so much for the referral - i'll call Cannon - perhaps i could buy that CD that I apparently lost. All i want to do is 'sharpening' , lightening up or making a photo darker, etc. nothing 'fancy' - thanks again for your reply

Win 8 has a Photos app that may or may not be sufficient for your needs. There's also other photo editing apps available to download from the store.

If you don't want to use a "metro" or "modern" app then there are lots of freeware programs you could download and install. IrfanView, that md2lgyk mentioned above is pretty popular. It is technically a photo viewer but has limited editing capabilities as well.

You could simply enter "photo editor" into Google and find lots of options to choose from.

For really simple editing, you could always use Windows Paint which is still available in Win 8.

Hi there. When on the Start Screen type paint. That should bring it up. You'll find it in All Apps too. Right click to pin to Start Screen.

Please update your specs so to better help you.

I am not great on image adjustment, but I use Paint.net. It is free and maintained. It has most of the normal Photo adjustment facilities.
