If you used the same PC for 7, then I shall assume that it has to do with hardware. If not, I recommend that you should just store personal files in a thumb drive. I was once a cluttery user until my mom recommended that to me. I think it is a great idea since all that will be stored in your PC are just apps/software, and media files for leisure.

Restart Time includes a script for measuring system restart time and the measurements for many configurations. Running the script and comparing against a system similar to yours would give an idea of the condition of your system.

Looking at your system specs, you shouldn't have any problems with slow startup/shutdown.

How long have you had Windows 8/8.1 installed? Did you "upgrade" from Windows 7 or did you do a clean install? Upgrading from one operating system to another is never advisable, but from your post, it seems that Windows 8 was faster a few days ago than it is now?

You may need to defrag your hard drive and maybe clean out temporary files, but I'm not thinking that's the problem.

Solved decieving startup time in Performance & Maintenance
One thing I've noticed is that while my Windows 8 start screen appears quite quickly on boot, and I can start to do certain things, other services take quite a bit longer to become available. For example, I have to wait quite a while (i haven't timed it, but maybe as long as 20 or 30 seconds) to...
Hi all. I just upgraded Win7 to Win8 the other day. Each time I try to shut down my PC, I see the new frowny face BSOD for a spilt second, then my PC reboots (instead of shutting down). I changed some setting to avoid the auto reboot and ensure a dump file was being created. Now, the BSOD...
Long startup time in Performance & Maintenance
I installed Windows 8 64 on a partition I created in a extra 1TB drive. Install went ok. The major problem I have is the extremly long startup time. I get the screen with the fish on it right away. I then have to sit there and wait while the dots go around in a circle for 5 minutes or so until I...
