Can I recover my 8.1 without loading into Windows?

So I pressed shutdown and install updates. The computer has since been unable to restart. It keeps giving the message that it is repairing the error and going to restart. Which is the message it keeps giving every time it restarts.

I recovered as much as I can by loading Ubuntu through a USB drive.

I do not want to send the laptop back to the manufacturer to reinstall Windows because the process is going to take far too long and I really need my laptop.

Is there any way I can either recover the system or format and reinstall Windows?
No recovery cd was given or USB produced before the system crash.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

Sounds like it is a hard crash. You will have no choice but to contact the computer mfg. to order their discs for the restore. Recover what you can with Ubuntu for documents, photos, etc.. Programs you will not be able to.

Now if you can get it into a Safe mode boot. You may be able to recover from there and create the Restore discs.

What is the full model number?

There should be a recovery partition on the hard drive you can use by pressing a Fn key during boot. The users guide for your model will tell you exactly what you need to do.

Couldn't you burn the 8.1 iso to DVD an boot from it, to Repair startup?

The manufacturer no longer makes and or sends out recovery disks

How can I get into a Safe mode boot? I thought this was no longer the case in 8.

"Safe Mode" is disabled by default in UEFI based systems. We should manually enable the "Safe Mode" before Windows fails to boot.

How to enable the F8 key to start Safe Mode in Windows 8

If you have a friend with a "Win 8.1" machine, you can create a "Recovery Drive" and use it to perform a "Reset" operation.

Yes they do. You have to pay for the copy to be sent to you. They are required to still have available to users. A OEM copy of the OS for their machines. It is just that the copy cannot be used to load the OS on a competitor's system.

When I rang and asked for this copy they said they no longer do it and have not done it since 2006. It used to be a 14.95 fee I believe which I wouldn't have a problem in paying since I could keep my computer. She explained that you have to make your own recovery USB. I'm in Australia so maybe in your country they have to provide a disk.
