Changing user account to Administrator will not save.

Hi, i have recently migrated to Win8 from Win7 Pro and am coming to grips with the elevated security MS has dropped on us.
Either by design or accident when i installed Win8 i made my account a standard account not an Admin account.
Following the steps outlined on this site, which has been highly useful, i have learned that the home edition of win8, which i have, is rather more useless in changing many settings that were taken for granted in win7.

My issue in changing my account to an admin account is after successfully activating the admin account and signing into that, the changes i make in that account to my standard account, are not saved or reflected when i log back into my standard (or what should now be an admin) account.

My standard account remains a standard account no matter how many times i log into the admin account and change the account type.

Is there a step i am missing? I am more than frustrated by the lack of ease win8 has infused into what should be a simple process of having my account be the administrator account.

Thanks in advance for your help and please query me at your leisure for any clarity or information you need.

Cheers!
Neilo.

Try creating a new user account from the Administrator account and making it an administrator. On a clean install the first user account is by default made a member of the administrators group. It still doesn't have full administrator privileges unless you use the "run as administrator" option. This due to UAC and is there for security and safety reasons. Turning UAC off will essentially make you a full admin without having to switch accounts. The true Administrator "account" is disabled by default as its only really needed in an emergency. It can be accessed when needed though. Oh, its not Windows 8 Home, it's Windows 8 Core. And yes, its missing a few features available in Windows 8 Pro. That's why it costs less than Pro.

Great advice! Thankyou sir, that worked a treat.
I logged in as administrator, created a new admin account and then deleted my old standard one. All is well.
Odd that it would not let make those changes to the default account, but i shan't worry about why.

Thank you!
