Cannot Boot from USB to Reinstall Windows

I own a Samsung Serie 5 laptop which currently runs Windows 8.1. I would like to do a clean install using the recovery media that was provided with the laptop. It's a UEFI PNY 16GB USB stick with recovery media on.

I have disabled password on boot and also disabled fast boot in order to make the boot from USB the top priority in regards to booting. These were all suggestions I found elsewhere on the internet (bar the priority one, pretty common sense!).

I then save the settings and restart only for it to seemingly boot normally.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Normally there is a Fn key you can press top bring up the boot menu where you can choose what device to boot from. Try that. If no luck, what is the full model number of the Samsung Serie 5 laptop?

The online manual should help figure out what to do.

Not sure on the Samsung's but try hitting the esc key on boot up should bring up a Boot menu where you will select your UEFI USB media. If not Esc look in your manual for the key to hit on boot to get a Boot Menu
I just thought of something insure you are getting a complete shut down and not a hybrid shut down.

    Hi there

I think it's a bit more than just UEFI. To get the system to boot from an external device (UEFI or "legacy") you need to DISABLE protected boot. You don't need to disable UEFI. If there's also an option like "Enable legacy boot" then check that box too.

Now you should be able to boot from the USB.

(You might have to re-enable protected boot afterwards -- I have no idea how you'll enter the W8 activation key manually from the recovery disk when the system was created with protected boot --you are on your own on that one. However the system should boot now from an external USB device).
