Is there a way to sign out the current when shutting down?

In Windows 8, we can realize that when we click 'shut down' button under 'Power' menu, it just shuts down the computer without logging out (signing out) the current user.

Is there a way by which I could achieve 'sign out' when I click 'shut down' button?
    (Windows 7 does it automatically)

Three finger Salute from the Metro Screen (Ctrl-Alt-Del). Or Windows Key + X and click on Log-off or shutdown. As for Desktop. Just click on the Globe and choose the power choice in the menu if you are using a third party software like Classic Menu, Start8, etc..

    Hello Gokulnc,

When you shut down the computer, it will sign out all users and shut down the computer in Windows 8 as well.

Do you by chance have Windows set to automatically sign in to the user account at startup?

Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup

If you have a local account, is it password protected?

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

Bro, merely shutting down doesn't automatically sign me out. That's my problem. Hope you get it

    Hi Shawn,

I've already tried that, but that doesn't work with me. The issue still persists

    Hi gokulnc,

Your issue is a bit confusing. Like Shawn says when you shut down your PC it automatically signs you off first (and any other users that are signed on as well after prompting you). If you think about it, it is impossible to be signed on if your computer is turned off (nothing to sign on to) although the current state could be saved if you hibernate.

    what is the issue exactly?

Edit: Do you mean it doesn't tell you? I just restarted and no, it didn't say "signing out". I seem to remember it did in previous versions but I'm not sure.

    Adam,

My issue is, when I shut down and switch on my PC, Windows 8 automatically signs in automatically into the previously used user account, instead of displaying me the 'User List', by which I can choose an account and log into.

    Hope you get it now

Ah, ok. So it wasn't actually signing in to the account, but just taking you to the user's sign in screen instead of the all users sign in screen.
