Windows Movie maker 6 (Vista) Onto an 8.1 Laptop?

    Hello again.

When I got my Windows 7 laptop, I installed WMM 6 from my old Vista machine because the W7 version is all but useless. So, I would really like, nay, NEED to do the same now I've got a Windows 8 laptop. I'm hoping this is possible.

I still have the files from my Vista laptop and the downloaded dlls from the Seven Forum, so my obvious question is - is it possible and is it exactly the same process as laid out in the Seven Forum?

I have done a search here, but it's turned nothing up, although I'm sure I had read a thread on it a few weeks ago .

    My laptop is a 64-bit, Windows 8.1.

Hope you can help and many thanks for reading.

Why not try it and let us know how it goes?

Can you post a link to the sevenforums instructions on doing this? I have a Vista system that I could copy from if I had the instructions.

Edit: Is this it? install movie maker from vista on windows 7! Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

Here's the link Windows Movie Maker 6.0 - Install on Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Okay... unless someone posts saying it'll self-destruct my machine in 5 seconds, I'll do a restore point, bite the bullet and have a go.

    These links look interesting:

So it all looks like it should work.

OK - I've done it but it hasn't worked.

The program is there and it loads, but I can't import AVIs and edit them.

The dlls didn't seem to work when I installed them, so I suspect that's the problem.

Right - I bit the bullet and downloaded Blaine's programme from here:

Blaine's Movie Maker Blog: Installing Windows Movie Maker 6.0 on Windows 7 or 8

and it worked fine. I shall do some security scans tonight to make sure all is safe -

But the program is working like a dream, so fingers crossed all is OK.
