Latest Windows 8.1 update freezing start menu?

I just updated maybe half an hour ago and now I can't use the start as its frozen as a white window icon. IS this a known issue, and is there a fix? Doing a system restore solves it - but then I'm rolled back and continually prompted that it'll update on my
next restart.

Moving the menu to the left, right AND top of the screen makes it work, but the bottom default is frozen.

A stuck or running process will do it. Finding it is a little hard if you are unable to pull up something like Process Explorer. You can use the Events log in Administrator Tools to see if anything is happening.

Personally I would use MSConfig, to try and debug the problem. Can you download Speccy from Majorgeeks.com and post the web URL that it gives from the output? Try rebuilding the Master Boot Record also. See Restore, Fix, Repair Master Boot Record in Windows 8 | 7 for how to access.

The biggest culprit that I have found in this case, was Windows Search Indexer. Along with Windows 8 not being able to update File History with a network drive. Then there is always the good old Anti-Virus that takes over while scanning your system, causing total complete halting of being able to do anything.
