missing files after chkdsk repair on windows 8.1

    Hey
So I did a disk repair for one of my hard drives (not the system drive ) using check disk because I could not open my folders it would say they were corrupted. This followed me powering off my pc while it was shutting down. So after the chkdisk repair my drive was now functioning ok except for one thing; some of my files and were missing. I could not see any Found.xxx folder even after showing hidden files. I then checked my free space and noticed that it had not changed inspite of the files missing one of which was a folder containing 250GB of data which I cant afford to lose. This has led me to think my data is still on the drive but just hidden somehow. How can I recover this data. Please help

Possibly chkdsk take all the files it could not figure out where they were supposed to go and usually places them in a found.000 folder that is located on the root of your hard drive however this is a hidden file.

In the View tab click Show Hidden Files and usually dir0000.chk etc will appear.

This shows the importance of having a backup of your files.

If all else fails, give Recuva a try, see what it finds for you.

    Just A Thought

Try imaging the entire disk with one of the Imaging products like Macrium Free Version then see if you could mount the image and view files.

Probably a real shot-in-the-dark but what the heck. Likely you won't be able to image if the files are corrupted.

Yeah, I would suggest you take a clone of that hard drive and then use a recovery tool like TestDisk - CGSecurity to recover your data from the clone drive.

Try to find the Chkdsk logs in the Event viewer to see what the results were. It's possible it mapped some bad blocks, but I don't think 250GB worth of bad blocks is very likely.

If you can't find anything, you could try to access the CHKDSK folder inside the System Volume Information.

This is easier to do with an off-line viewer - such as loading a Linux system and reading the volume. But it can also be done with some disk manager tools, or even the hard way using the CMD administrator prompt and taking ownership, using ATTRIB, etc.

There may be several chkdsk files in the folder - they are named with the date and time I think.
