Notification Area Icons Disappear

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro X64.
Recently I have noticed that Notification Area Icons for some apps have disappeared.
A reinstall or a repair install sometimes brings them back but then they disappear after a while, and usually after the next reboot.
Have checked forums for the affected products and the only solution offered there is reinstall or repair install.
I very much doubt that this issue is down to the products. It is almost certainly a Windows problem but of course Windows Tech Support offers nothing other than the usual banal references to largely irrelevant "how to" articles.

Anyone else hit this problem?

I wish I had your problem! Mine is quite the opposite - How to stop the notificationlist from building up constantly.
Anyway, what have you tried?

Click the small white arrow by the notification area.
Click Customise
Try clicking "always show all icons...etc (Bottom left item)
or you could try, in the same window, returning to default.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.

When I say disappear, I mean exactly that.
It's not a case of them being hidden, they have vanished without trace.
They do not even appear in the customisation list where I have chosen "Always show icons and notifications" as the default.

Your problem could perhaps be solved by specifying "Hide icon and notification" for those entries in the customisation list that you wish to omit.

I have the same prob as you, in reverse. Yes, I am aware I can hide them, but I would rather not have them at all, other than the defaults. But I am sure someone will pop in and help with your problem.

Hello Jim,

You might see if resetting the notification area may be able to help it to stick around afterwards.

Hope this helps. :)
