See screen shot, there are a handful of these littered on down thru, along with other warnings, etc but nothing looked out of the ordinary besides this...Seems my computer is VERY busy during the night.Click image for larger version

Here's the one under maintenance, when I open the one that offers a solution it's the graphic driver update that I talked about originally not being able to install, I'm guessing because I have a nvidia installed? Every time I tried to install the update windows wants me to, it shuts down. Not sure what to do. Click image for larger version

This is getting beyond my knowledge, but one more thing to check . . . maybe?

Control Panel>Windows Update>View Update History and look for any failed updates. From there, I think you'll be able to figure out what to do next to "roll back" or uninstall any failed updates.

Like you, I wondered about "Intel Corporation Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3 software update released in January, 2014" but didn't say anything. I just couldn't figure out why Windows Update would try to update an nVidia card with Intel drivers.

Now, however, it occurs to me that it could be that your motherboard may have "onboard built-in graphics" which have been disabled, while an nVidia video card was added for better graphics. I do that when I build a system with a mobo that has built-in graphics.

If you would, please go back to your profile and complete your system specs, filling in every blank possible. With this information (brand/model number or self-built, video card or built-in graphics, motherboard, RAM, hard drive, etc.), those who have better hardware knowledge will be able to assist you better than shooting darts in the dark as we've been.

The only failed update is the graphics adapter. Yes, there is an onboard graphics which came with the computer, it's just a run of the mill dell and when I get a chance tomorrow I will do as you asked.

Would you happen to have a restore point from before you updated the graphics driver?

The only one I have is the day I installed 8.1 so won't help. My computer was still on this morning (good news) and I found this error message on the desktop, seems it's still trying to install that darn driver. What can I do to fix this, I'm not sure how to do what it asks? See screeshot: Click image for larger version I won't be able to get to this til tonight if anyone has any suggestions today....

I would say close the notice, remove the partially installed driver and hide the update (right click on it in Windows Update and click on Hide).

Forgive the stupid question but how do I remove the partially installed driver? I don't want to screw it up.

No questions are stupid; only those unasked.

Control Panel>Windows Update>View Update History and look for any failed updates. I don't know if your failed Intel update "qualifies" as an installed update. However, take a look at the following three images and see if you can get rid of it.

Here, you'll click on 'Installed Updates' to see if you can see the failed Intel update.

If you find the Intel failed update, select it and click on 'Uninstall an update' at the top of the page. If that doesn't work, go back to Review your update history and click on Troubleshoot problems with installing updates.

Now to see if this works properly.
