Solved This computer vs. a user

Probably a stupid question but I just noticed when I was searching for a photo on my computer (windows 8.1) that there is a category (I know, wrong way to describe it) that says "This PC" but then you can go into the c drive from within that category and find my name as a user (only user on the computer) each place has pictures, documents and such....are they the same? I'm afraid I may be saving pictures to both instead of just one if so. If they are separate, is there an easy way to move all the pictures from "this pc" to my user name?

Sorry if it's small, I'm not good at this, hopefully you can make bigger. You see there are pictures under this pc and also under users, my name. Are they the same or different? If different, why? I originally only had it set up with one place for pictures.

Ok. I see now.

The "Folders" section in the "This PC" window are just shortcuts of your "C:\Users\(user-name)" folders, so they're the same.

windows always worked this way ,with win8 they changed the name .in previous versions of windows ,like Vista XP Win7 ect ect 'THIS PC' use to be called 'MY COMPUTR' and they are the same files so no need to worry

Ok, thanks, apparently I've just never noticed this before. I was worried that I was going to have to go thru all my pictures and documents. So, even if by chance something saved itself into "this computer" instead of under my user, would I still find it under my user name?

Whilst we are on the subject - your user data would be a lot safer if you moved it out if the C partition to an independent data partition. Then it would not be affected in case your OS goes belly up.

There are several ways to do that. If you like to persue the idea, post back and we'll discuss the options.

Andreah,

That's correct. They are the same the same folder, so it doesn't matter which location you saved or viewed from since the target location would be your "C:\Users\(user-name)" folder.
