hi

I never update recently, therefore this issue cannot be due to updates. im using win 8 64bit on Acer V5. It was working fine, since last week, when ever i hibernate, its not hibernating, for nearly 30min+ its jus black screen and the laptop is running. The only option left is to force shut down, then when I restart, it shows My pc ran into a problem thats all. No further details.

This is happening randomly. Lets say I hibernate 5 times a week, 2 times I'm having this issue and loosing all my works.

any help?

Thank you

Hibernation has been an issue since XP SP3. Suggest turning it off with the command "powercfg /hibernate off" in a command window. Some units will never work properly with it, due to the OEM's do not want to take the time to fix the problem with their hardware.

Ditto!!!

For decades, the internet forums have been awash with complaints about Hibernation and "MS Sleep".
"Buggy" is a pretty broad term, but seems to fit.

So when I'm setting up a new system or reinstall of an older system, "Hibernate" and "Sleep" are both turned OFF.

To be safe and not sorry, when you're not using your computer for a length of time, like overnight, turn it off.
Your computer will thank you for it. Most personal computer hardware was never designed for more than 25% duty cycle anyway.
Give it a rest!

Another benefit of turning Hibernate OFF, is that you get rid of that HUMONGOUS 'hiberfil.sys' file sitting in your root directory.

Cheers mates!

I used to feel that way about Sleep and refused to use it prior to Windows 7, but it's been rock solid for me for the last four years or so. I had a one-time problem due to mistakenly leaving Samsung Magician running hidden in the notification area, for that program purposely interferes with sleep due to Samsung's position that their SSDs don't work properly with sleep. (I'm not making that up.) My computer sleeps several times a day both automatically and on demand, wakes up to record TV shows on my HD HomeRun Prime, etc, and it hasn't missed a beat in all this time. While I've disabled Hybrid Sleep to save writing a hibernation file to my SSD boot drive every time I sleep, my APC UPS will wake the PC from sleep to hibernate it during a prolonged power outage, so I never have unsafe shutdowns. I don't care about the large hiberfil.sys on my 16 GB system as I have a 240 GB SSD boot drive, and the Terabyte imaging software I use can exclude it from system images anyway.

I have been using for hibernation for more than 1 year without any issue.. I know I can simply disable, but my line of work I need to run few apps for 4-5 days, so I need hibernation and cannot be turned off. any other suggestions?

Hibernation does not allow the apps to just sit there and run. It places the system basically into a Coma. If the unit is for apps that need to run 4-5 days, you would have to leave the system running the whole time.

If you are done with the system, shut it down. If you are at the office and taking a laptop to a meeting, let it go into sleep mode while unplugged, while you carry it somewhere, or get a transformer.

I run Xubuntu on my laptop all of the time. I never place into sleep, since it is fast booting with the SSD I have in it. Plus less overhead then Windows 8. Even when I had Windows 8.1 running on the laptop, it still woke up fast from being off.

As long as you keep the number of tasks that need to be running as background processes. You will not have to wait 10-20 minutes before you can use the system after turning back on.

I do know that, it's just I have several logins and its easy for me to use hibernation, rather than providing ideas to disable hibernation, can anyone please try to give some useful information to track this issue and troubleshoot it? may be anyone know any logging application?

I've used hibernate for years and it works for me. Maybe just lucky. I do shutdown every so often and restart. From my perspective it is kind of like a restore point that is created when going into hibernate then loaded on start. Seems to me the computer is off totally, maybe not. Sure boots quicker.

Have you disabled it, reboot, then re-enabled it?

Run the Energy Report and see what errors show up. Also make sure that you have the latest bios update from the manufacturer of the computer or Motherboard. I have found that lately there has been issues with the Microsoft Signed drivers that cause more problems, then just sticking with the chipset manufacturers or OEM drivers.
