    Windows Boots to Desktop

Ever since I installed updates, yesterday and today, Windows 8.1 no longer boots to the start screen, it boots to the desktop.
Also, in msconfig, the boot reverts to 'Selective startup even though I keep changing it back to 'Normal startup'.

I haven't made any changes to my system other than the Windows updates.
System File Checker finds no integrity problems.

    Any ideas?
    James

Did that work? I just noticed an update today as I was restarting, must look at history.

Of course it works. I never post things that I did not try.

This is the first time I've ever seen anyone consider this a problem!

I've noticed in 8.1 that my MSCONFIG Selective Startup settings always revert to full startup and my UAC setting always goes back to at least the first level. You just have to keep resetting the settings until Windows 8.1 decides it's gonna continue to do what you have set, instead of reverting.

Worked fine for the startup to the start screen.
    Thanks much.
I don't know about the selective startup. That is still an issue.
