Whenever I attempt to install updates for windows 8.1 my computer freezes during the update. I have to do a hard restart and it takes a while for windows to restart. I have tried the Microsoft Fixit.

Check for missing or corrupt file Dtecte
I gives me no further information.
I have run virus scans and malware scans. All are clean.
Any suggestions as to fix this problem without a clean install or system restore?
