Wondering if anyone has similar issues to the following:
I have four folders on an external hard drive which I've applied custom icons to.
This is the way I've set them, and in Windows 8.1 Enterprise they remain this way:

... while in Windows 8.1 Pro they keep reverting back to the blank 'default' folder icon at random times, even after resetting them 3 or 4 times:

Any thoughts are welcome. :)

Hello Edwin,

Do you move that external drive between the two computers? Do you also plug in other external/flash drives to the one with 8.1 Pro installed? Any chance the external drive (in question) could be sharing a drive letter with another external/flash drive? The reason I'm asking is because I've seen strange happenings occur when one uses 3 or 4 different flash drives, and they all are assigned "the next" available drive letter when inserted, and that drive letter is always the same for all 3 or 4.

Just on a hunch, I would go into device manager, view hidden devices, and and clean out all hidden (eg, currently unused) external/flash drive profiles for the Win 8.1 Pro computer. Once done, I would insert the external drive (in question) and assign it a unique drive letter. For my purposes, I usually start at the back of the alphabet and assign each flash/external drive accordingly (eg, Z, X, W, etc). Please understand that my suggestion has no technical prowess behind it but you asked for thoughts so I gave you mine.

Good luck to you.

Update: If you decide to give my suggestion a try, please remember to delete those "code 45" profiles in three different places.

Okay, I think I got it.
I need to make an icon directory on both partitions as the drive letters change when you go back and forth!
Thanks for the extra jolt my brain needed SpringUpdate! :)
