So due to my computer not being able to start, I choose the option to refresh pc because it says it will remove apps. Well, how do I know that apps = programmes and not just those fancy things that run on metro.

Regardless, I refreshed and the pc was able to function normally again but I want my programmes back. System restore shows up nil.

So please help.

Hi LOL500:
There should be a list of your apps pinned to your desktop.

I know, so how do I recover them?

Unfortunately you have to reinstall them yourself.
If I'm not mistaken, the list is an HTML file and opens most links to the program(s) website.

Wait...under my C drive, I see a folder named windows.old and it contains all my old files! I don't know if it's complete or not but can I rename this folder and replace my programe folder?

I figure all registry values will be reentered when I run these apps again.

Oh thanks, what a relieve.

And why does windows recommend disk cleanup if you want to delete this folder? Wouldn't shift+delete be faster?
And does renaming the folder allow me to keep it for more than 28 days?
