Solved No Option Bar in Start Screen

I virtually never go to Start Screen but after 8.1 update I went to look around. I downloaded an app from app store and wanted to pin it to Start Screen. I found the app on the apps screen and right-clicked it to get a check mark but there was no option bar at the bottom of the screen with the Pin To Start option. I also see no option bar at the bottom of the Start Screen either.

Is there some trick to get the option bar to display?

After update 1 you get a drop down context menu right where you right clicked and the option bar is gone.

When you right-click on the tile in All Apps, this is what you should see. It replaces the option bar you refer to.

Personally, I like it.

When I right-click an app on either screen, I just get a check mark on the app (no context menu).

It seems like I got half the update -- it has removed the option bar but has not added the context menu.

Does focusing on a tile then hitting the space bar bring it up?

You are correct, sir. Works like a charm. Is there some setting that I have wrong?

I still don't get the context menu.

I saw this thread: http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/44465-right-click-metro-problems.html
and it appears to be the exact same problem I have. It was solved by saying don't use custom themes.

I'm not sure what custom themes are. I have defined a new background and am using a new mouse cursor set. Does that qualify as a custom theme?

Doesn't it sound like a pretty big problem if win 8.1 update 1 doesn't support custom themes?

Microsoft have official themes for Windows and try to block you from installing other themes from third party sites. There are programs that will modify system files so you can run these themes and get around the restriction. This can have unexpected consequences when you update Windows and cause unexpected things to happen. If you have just customized using what is built into Windows then that shouldn't be an issue. As a test just switch back to a Windows supplied mouse cursor and desktop background/theme.

Problem solved, for me at least. Windowblinds 8 has a compatibility issue with win 8.1 Update 1. It breaks right-click context menus. I can't live without WB8 since it makes win 9.1 desktop look like win 7 (aero). They have a fix which is undergoing QA.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
