Windows 8.1 upgrade did update 1

So, my work laptop has been running Windows 8.0 pro. Since update 1 for 8.1 was released this week, I decided it was probably time to install the 8.1 upgrade from the store in order to prepare for testing update 1 at a later time.

I was surprised to see that when I did the 8.1 upgrade from the Store, that it automatically did update 1 as well.

Was trying to stay off update 1 for time being because of known problems with WSUS.

Oh well, other than having to reinstall my touchpad drivers to get 2 finger scrolling, the upgrade and update went just fine.

Alphanumeric stated that MS released the ISOs as such, so it will be the same via the Store.

Yep, same thing happened to me on my Lappy. She started out with Vista, went immediately to a clean install of Windows 7, and then another clean install to Windows 8. So, I went to the Store to get Windows 8.1 in preparation for the Windows 8.1 Update.

Talk about being confused! When she rebooted, she looked just like the Windows 8.1 Update, and no updates were available. I went into Programs and Features, searched for KB2919355 and it wasn't installed. Good grief! What was going on?

I posted about it and someone (Alphanumeric I think) told me the Microsoft Store had most likely already added the Update to Windows 8.1 upgrade. Whew, thought I'd lost my marbles there for a bit!

Spoke a little too soon, once I got to work all things haven't been great

1). Display Link was broken, needed update
2). Monitor lost custom resolutions, had to set that all back up
3). CPU fan is running out of control. (Upgraded BIOS to A07 from Dell, I've updated chipset drivers, Intel Mgt Engine, working on video card right now, disabled the Windows Backup ConfigCheck scheduled task)
#4). VMware needs to be reinstalled according to Action Center.
#5). My custom config to disable touchpad when USB mouse is attached is not functioning.

Sheesh, maybe I'd better go look at mine again!

I can't seem to fix the fan issue. Dell wants to send me a new fan. I'm certain that is not it.

So, I'm taking an image, will put another SSD into my chassis, put my 8.1 clean install down, and see if problem goes away.

If so, it appears I'll have to basically start over in order to go from 8.0 to 8.1.

I cannot believe I didn't take an image before doing this 8.1 upgrade, epic fail on my part.

Laid image down for 8.1 doing same thing. Must be an OS or driver issue. I'm still digging. Doing hd4000 right from Intel new.
