Access problems to my own files etc

I am having just the most frustrating time trying to do anything on my computer with windows 8. Every time I turn around, it is telling me I don't have permission to do this or that thing. Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem? I am at home and this is my own personal computer. No one else uses it. I feel like I am not being given permission to use my own computer that I paid for.

On another forum, I was reading what someone said to someone else who was having this same problem and they advised them to go to their Users folder and right click then click on properties and the Security tab and to change the settings there but it wont allow me to.

I cannot even rename many of my own pictures that I have in a folder. Its ridiculous!

Also, how do I log on as the Administrator? I actually thought that I was doing that anyway, but it just now dawned on me that maybe am not. When I had Windows XP on my old computer it had a thing you clicked to log on as the Administrator, but I don't see that feature anywhere on Windows 8??? and how can I set it where I am always logged on as the Administrator? I looked, as I said before, on the Users/Security thing and all the things are checked as the Administrator but then there's the other one and it has my name on it and the top two are unchecked. So I just realized maybe I need to reset this entire thing? How can I do that so that I always have access to my own stuff on my computer?

Hi there Claudia. So far we know the computer isn't letting you do things, but what things isn't it letting you do? Can you be specific about the individual issues you have had? It could draw more attention to your issue.

Hello antspants.

Well one thing it wont let me do is if I try to save a picture and then I go back to rename it or else change the picture somewhat in my Paint Shop Pro program (I do a lot of work with graphics) it tells me permission denied and I end up having to entirely just save it as something else, then go back and delete the first original version. And its kind of weird because sometimes it allows me to save a picture under another name and sometimes it doesn't.

Then another thing it does is that this morning for instance, I wanted to look inside of one of my folders and it told me I needed Administrator permission, so I clicked on that and it said access denied. Which also is confusing because sometimes when it does that it allows me to do it. I cant understand why it asks me that in the first place, especially when then I just click ok and then it gives me access. It really makes no sense. I mean if I were some person trying to gain access to someone else's stuff all I have to do is click okay and it gives me access? Its more a nuisance than anything else. This morning also I was trying to download some .dlls for using one of my programs for my Paint Shop Pro graphics program and I was supposed to add them to my windows system and system32 folders and it wouldn't let me. I had always done that before when I had Windows XP with no problem.

One of the biggest things for me though that is most annoying is when it tells me I have to have permission to do something in a folder or with a file and it says I have to have administrator permission so I have to click ok then it gives it to me and lets me do it. That makes no sense to me at all since I am the same person... why put me through all that?

Claudia, this is strange. It may help to have an administrator move your thread to User Accounts and Family Safety section. Maybe clicking the exclamation symbol at the bottom of your main post and requesting a move. I'm not sure how its done here.

Out of interest, are your problems related to a drive other than your operating system drive? Or do you only have the one drive, with you operating system on it?
