    Thatmanbrian,
it could be that Windows is trying to optimize your file lists before you actually see them onscreen, which was a carryover bug from vista, try rt-clicking the folders (or parent) you are having problems with, go to customize, and then choose Optimize this folder for General Items - make sure you turn on the option to apply to subfolders. This may take awhile, but afterwards it should speed things up for you as it will re-write your registry BagsMRU settings that often become unruley with a lot of files/folders.

If that doesn't work, it could be the indexer, and/or NTFS symbolic links/junction points. All of which can easily be taken care of if you need the help. Unfortunately I have had to deal with this kind of nonsense several times over on our fileserver at work (should've never gotten rid of the Novell Fileserver!).

Yes, I realize that. What I showed was to switch to Details view in the app Explorer window, in the case I showed it was a Save as dialog.

Thank you! I chose Optimize this folder for General Items and it resolved this problem for me.

Hi folks I’m not a fan of “Paint” within Windows 8.1, so hadn’t really used it until yesterday. I noted that when I loaded a file and clicked the “save as” option, each of the file format options (png, jpg, bmp etc) produces a filename box with a drop-down arrow that then displays a short list...
Just for info, I've just been looking at the Microsoft IE Gallery page HERE and it appears that the Fanboy Tracking Protection Lists (TPL) have been removed from the Microsoft website.
