Wireless adaptor not recognized in new installation

Installed windows 8 on blank HD. Version was enterprise. Went through installation process, then discover that the wireless adaptor (laptop, built in) wasn't being recognized FULL stop by windows. I tried a few things. In the device manager, the wireless adaptor is not shown. However, after updating the device list, it shows one unknown device. I looked through the preloaded drivers for wireless devices, but all of them were for USB ethernet/wireless adaptors, which as I recall from my previous installation of windows was not the type of driver that the device was using. I've also gone through the automates troubleshooting, etc, but nowhere is it even acknowledged that the device is even there. Now, my initial thinking is that it is indeed something to do with the drivers, but I'm not sure if I can find the needed ones. I'll upload more detailed information about my setup if it would be useful.
    Thanks

Go to your metro screen and start typing "ethernet' without the quotes, click on Ethernet and there seems to be some help there. I'm running 8.1, so I'm not sure exactly what you'll see, but you should have a choice between programs, services, apps, etc. Choose appropriately and you may find what you need.

BTW, it will be helpful to those who know a whole lot more about this than I do to give them your full system specs instead of just "OS Windows 8". You should complete the form: Computer brand name, make, model, hard drive, RAM, and anything else it asks for as fully as you can so they'll have something to go on.

Do you have wired internet access? If so, do several Windows Updates from Control Panel. It's quite likely it will find the needed driver.

The best thing is if this was a pre-built computer. To go to the manufacturer's website and look to see if they have Windows 8 drivers. I never update a computer, unless I have the current drivers on a USB Pendrive. Sometimes the Ethernet adapter will be found, so you can then go online and get the drivers.

I would not use the Microsoft/Windows update drivers. Due to they have been known to cause issues with the hardware. Always use the computer, motherboard mfg. or network adapter site for downloading the proper drivers.

As for Device Manager and updating the drivers, do that from the Desktop mode, not the Metro Interface.

In my experience, Windows Update drivers have not been a problem since Windows 7 was released. XP and Vista had some serious problems in that regard but 7 and 8 have been very good.

Would be good to have the computer specs as Wynona asked for though.

That is incorrect. The drivers being released by Microsoft right now. Are causing problems with hardware. The problem with XP/Vista/7 was due to Microsoft not letting the Hardware manufacturers on board while they were writing code for those OS. That is all for a different topic, not for this one.
