How to enable new Start menu in Windows 8.1 Update 1?

Did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Update 1 from a TechNet ISO. Trying to figure out how to activate the new Start menu. I click on Start and get the the Start screen, click on the Start button and get the same. Gone through a few settings when I right click the task bar, properties and I don't see anything obvious in there.

I know I'm on Update 1 since I can minimize Metro apps.

If you're thinking of the proposed 'new' Start Menu, it may be coming later this year.

Sounds like I didn't gain much then! I was under the impression that was in 8.1 U1. I guess I need to learn to read.

Hello mvalpreda, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yeah, that Start Menu will be added to Windows 8.1 in a future update this year.

If you like, you could use one of the options in the tutorial below to add a Start Menu to Windows 8.1 now. You can always remove it when the update is available.
