    Access desktop with touch screen

    Hello

I will be running a full screen program on a windows 8 all-in-one pc. The computer will be placed in a public place and i would not like a user to be able to access the desktop. A program will be preloaded and takes up the entire screen. I have heard that a person will be able to access the desktop just by swiping the screen. Is this correct?

This is correct. Or by pressing Alt+F4 you get access to Start. Win+D gives access to the desktop.

Your only options is to have software written to prevent it or setup a non admin user account and hope that you can restrict users from things you don't want them to have access to. I don't have other user accounts to advise you. Maybe WHS or somebody else can assist.

The easiest is to run it from a user account (not admin account). At least then they cannot make much damage.

Here is a very detailed pictorial/instruction on how you can restrict a user account.

How would you stop people from accessing the desktop with windows 7? Are they using a keyboard?
I am not familiar with what an "All in one" computer is Nor do I know what people will have access to.

Could you give us more detail Elenac?

If the end user is having to give input via keyboard, all they need to do is Alt+Tab for instance, 85% of people familiar with a computer would know to do that.

You could have someone write or adjust your registry keys to set up your application as the Windows shell. Way out of my league. but you would have to do the same with windows 7.

How do you as the administrator get past the full screen via your application (regardless if win 7 or 8) Once opened does it need a password to minimize? How does it work.

As we dont know anything about your system its a little hard.

There is always the possibility of disabling swiping.

There will be no keyboard or mouse. Only the touchscreen. The user needs to touch the screen to run through the application.
With windows 8 i have been told that with the touchscreen the user can swipe the screen and access the desktop but with windows 7 they cannot do this. Not sure if my information is correct

7 or 8 - no difference. People who know the systems can always muck it up. In a public place and on the high seas you are exposed to the elements, LOL.

The other days I wanted to check out laptops at BestBuy. On half of them someone had changed the password to access it. Even the BestBuy guys did not know how to access them. There are, of course, ways to fix that.
