    Automatic Repair Loop

    Hi Everyone,

I'm stuck in an automatic repair loop.

One suggestion has been to use a USB recovery disk but I can't create one now that I don't have access to Windows 8.

    Any suggestions?

Can you boot into Windows 8 safe mode?

Do you have any Windows 8 installation DVD?

I do, but it's at my other home (just my luck).

I spent an hour searching for a way to make a USB recovery drive but couldn't find one online.

If the system is rebooting by itself, it may, during the third try allow you access to a Recovery menu that has a Safe Mode option. It appears on the same page as the Startup Repair, where a Startup Settings option shows up.

Okay, when you have access to the installation DVD, you should boot your machine from the DVD. After booting, you will have several recovery options. One of the most useful of them is the option to "System Restore" to an earlier restore point.

But if you want to do things immediately, I can't think of anything to suggest right now. But hang around, some other members might be able to help you out. My knowledge is quite limited.

Thanks, I'll try when I get home.

So far when I boot I just get the blue "Automatic recovery" page that gives me the option to "restart" or "advanced options." The advanced options tab gives me the option to restore, recovery, or boot from a CD/DVD or USB.

I'm going to see if I can get a recovery USB.

Sorry, but I don't exactly understand what you mean.

Have you tried the restore option from the advanced options? Be careful though, before trying that option, search online what that means, because if that "restore" refers to the "refresh" feature of Windows 8, you might lose some configurations/apps... I'm not exactly sure.

I've gotta go now, some other members hopefully will assist you further.

    Good luck.

I have my USB recovery stick and when I click on the "Refresh your PC" option I get the following message:

"The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again."

    Can anyone help?
