RDP: Trouble restoring server audio following disconnect

I'm using a Windows 8 Pro box to serve audio and video, but it's also used as an HTPC box connected by SPDIF to an audio receiver. Using RDP (Remote Desktop) from another PC allows me to keep audio playing on the HTPC just fine during the RDP session, provided I tick the box in the options wherein I indicate to keep audio at the server.

However, if I log into the HTPC using an RDP client running on a mobile platforum (iOS or Android), which does not have the option to keep audio on the server, no audio can be played on the HTPC following a terminated RDP session without a reboot of the server PC. It's fine that there's no option to keep audio on the server using a mobile client, but once I disconnect the RPD session from the mobile device, I expect that the audio is restored back to the server. But, for whatever reason, playback is just broken.

This isn't a mobile client issue, because if I use a desktop RDP client while choosing instead to send the audio to the connected client PC, and then disconnect the RDP session, I see the same symptom, where audio doesn't get brought back to the server. A reboot is required to remedy.

    Any ideas? Thanks...

You really need to be using Twonky Beam or another media server program. Using RDP will cause headaches sooner or later. In your case, RDP is not the correct way to do what you are wanting to do.

OK thanks, but maybe you misunderstood. I'm not using RDP to stream media. I'm just using it to access the PC for maintenance reasons now and then. Or, do you mean using Twonky Beam as a VNC server, for which function I wasn't aware that it had.

There's something broken with RDP and audio. On the client, if you start a session whle audio is playing on the server and choose to bring audio to the client (only option on mobile OS's), then disconnect, audio doesn't get sent back to the server without locally logging back onto the server console.

Use Teamviewer for accessing the computer. RDP still has issues that Microsoft has never resolved. Twonky Beam is a Media server, not a VNC server, if you had taken the time to read up on it.

Last. Yes RDP can screw up audio. Especially while streaming. If you are going to stream audio and/or video. I would suggest placing the media on a NAS or a computer running FreeNAS, and use VLC or a Media Streaming package for media streaming.

Really the computer that is acting as a server, should never have access allowed through VNC, RDP, or even Team Viewer. Too many issues dealing with Safety.
