    A Couple Questions

    Hello,

I've recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.1 pre-installed. First question is how do i enable a confirm window to pop up when deleting something? I don't like how i can just hit delete and it moves it (Only to the recycle bin, but i'd rather it didn't).

Secondly how do i stop the start menu from switching to that Windows 8 menu view? I did originally change it so that when you click the start menu (Bottom left in) it would actually bring up the start menu, but it seems to have reverted. On top of this how do i change it so that pressing the Windows button brings up the start menu rather than the Windows 8 menu view thing?

Thirdly how do i enable file details when in Windows Explorer. So in Windows 7 when you select a file it would give the size, name, author, date last edited etc in the details pane. How do i get that now?

Finally, how do i change my task bars transparency?

    Thank you for your time!

Download and install Classic Shell, you will have a start button that opens a start menu like Windows 7. Also more options in File Explorer and enables taskbar transparency.

For file details click the View tab in File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer) Lots of options.

Are you speaking of the All Apps menu? If so right click on a vacant area of the Taskbar and select Properties and then the Navigation Tab.

If you hold down the Shift key and then delete the file it will give you this prompt which will not send it to the Recycle bin but delete it.

I've tried looking into those option already, but can't find anything. I can't believe they got rid of the little file details menu bit in the first place.

Did you click on Details in the View Tab? After you select Details look at Add Columns and it will show a lot of different columns you can add.

Thanks for all the welcomes and help.

Sorry, I don't think i'm explaining what i'm looking for properly.

    1. File details - See the image below. What i'm after is more detail in there. Windows 7 had a bigger panel with more info. Does Windows 8 allow me to alter this?

    2. Start menu - Just realised Pokki Start Mneu is the thing i'm after. It's installed on my laptop and i had it working until it reset itself. With Pokki i could select the bottom left Windows icon and it would bring up a start menu rather than send me to that Windows 8 tile menu thing.

    Thanks,
    swood
