Hi there
Seems some people have NOTHING better to do than to try and stop Others from pursuing QUITE LEGAL activities.

Seems now if you use torrents your use of them is now being monitored - I'm downloading QUITE LEGALLY a few variations of the DEBIAN WHEEZY Linux distro from a torrent link THEY PROVIDE - not one of the "dubious sites" (even on their site it requests you use the torrent as it reduces load on their servers). I'm happy to comply after all we do get these distros totally FREE and anything that keeps their costs down I'm happy to comply with.

I want to try out some minimal installs such as LXDE.

However I see from various notes and colleagues that the UK particularly is beginning to monitor the use of torrents -- well I have news for you -- I'm now using the TOR network so that should make it harder to track.

However you can see from the DEBIAN site that they supply these torrents and the reason why they prefer you to use them.

(Actually this is a GOOD way of distributing software so the servers don't get overloaded -- maybe Ms should consider this when a major new release is available).

Debian -- Live install images

Note it suggests if you can use the Bit torrent method.

Not everybody is a criminal -- please note.

Cheers
jimbo

I can see over here in the UK torrents being totally blocked soon (legal or not)

we some to be going back to the age of CompuServe and AOL, only allowed to view what we are told

Perhaps purposely trying to hide your activities makes them more suspicious of what you are doing. If you are trying to prove that Torrents are used mainly for downloading legal materials, you should make sure that they can see you doing just that. Bombard them with evidence of legal activities, rather than making it hard to see any of it.

That is true. Although it's silly to think that torrents aren't used for tons of piracy. I don't pirate anything, and I haven't in years. But lots of people do.

You can try it but TOR is very slow. It is not the reason really - it is so people can access internet to send small files (email, tweets whatever) not so they can download movies.
