Win 8.1 crashing whenever I install incompatible software

Last time it was a sound enhancer called SRS Audio Sandbox. That was one of at least 4 unrecoverable crashes I've had in the last 2 weeks. Usually when trying to, or after installing incompatible(which I didn't know until the crash) software. I've installed DFX Audio Enhancer successfully for a while until it starts to cripple my games' performance. Then I have to uninstall it. But at least this one doesn't cause an unrecoverable crash.

Has anyone had the same experience with a certain software? And why don't the Windows 8.1 recovery options work? I click on one of them and nothing happens, so I have to reinstall Windows 8.1 all over again.
Anyone on the same boat?

Ideas:
1. Use a boot disk and recovery options from there.
2. System Restore - including manually created restore points
3. Keep disk images (Aomei Backupper is very good- free).

And yes, I've found my desktop- especially in Safe Mode- becomes unresponsive on installing even apparently trivial software. Simply uninstalling the program does not necessarily 'fix' this.. a restore point can be necessary.

Discovery of one such today: Advanced Uninstaller Pro 11.37. Supposedly compatible.
