After suffering a WIN8.1 boot failure, and despite manyattempts at recovery, I finally had to reinstall my WIN 8 Boot disk, then usethe free update download to reinstall WIN 8.1.
Since getting the PC up and running again. I have connectedthe original disk via a USB port, and tested it with cHkdsk and anti virus software, which both give it a clear bill ofhealth. And I can see all the original folders.
Unfortunately due to the change of boot disk, I have lost mypast two months Windows Live emails. Is there any way I can recover them fromthe original Disk ?

Probably, yes you can.

You will find that (most e-mail programs) store their downloaded information in C:\Users\Your name\AppData\

Windows live stores it locally in C:\Users\Your name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live mail\whatever your name is

You can either restore it from there or (if you have been keeping your email on the server) download it again.

Please let us know if you have been using IMAP or POP in the past.

EDIT: It will not be in your Windows.old - that is only OS information not your own personal information like emails.

No it will not. You will not have Windows.old with a clean install.

Windows.old is a copy of C:\Windows directory made in situation when you upgrade or refresh. It doesn't copy C:\Users or C:\Programs or anything else. You will never find any user specific data there I'm afraid.

I always use IMAP and so I download them all again. It takes a few hours for me.

I'd suggest you first copy the whole folder (to be safe) and then let us know what email provider you are using.

I use gmail.com and live.com and both refresh OK as I leave my emails on their servers.

@adamf. Thanks to your help, I have been able to print the important emails I required - (Appointments and passwords), so hopefully can now carry on as usual. I use gmail, and talktalk (pop) for my email. gmail was no problem, unfortunately the important ones were on talktalk, but all sorted now .
Thanks again

After you get this done, make it so that all emails are left on the server. I learned the hard way, after dealing with too many installs of Windows 8.x crashing. I just went with imap for those email boxes I could. The others that I could not. I made it to leave the emails on the server.

Also started making an image backup after I got everything installed that I needed, so that if I had to wipe & burn. I could just pull the backup and it would be back to normal.
