Factory Reset does not work after windows 8.1 upgrade

    Hi, i'm new here.

So I have recently obtained an ASUS X45CP pre-installed with Windows 8

then I saw this thing at Microsoft website about windows 8.1 and I thought about upgrading

    (which now I deeply regret)

After upgrading I found out that some of the device drivers are not fully supported yet (like the switchable graphics card)

So I thought of rolling back the laptop to factory settings and unfortunately windows 8.1 got that, too.

I've read various topics about that (mostly here), none of which I could follow to solve my problem.

    Help?

I did not find install.wim but here is a screenshot where the boot.wim is, I believe it's an important part on this process

You're kind of hosed unless you created an 8 recovery flash/usb drive before upgrading. There is no ASUS program on your laptop for recovery? I have this on Acer:

I searched but none came up, I'm being bothered by this for a week now and tried all options I can do

I have not created a recovery usb since the store said I can factory reset by pressing F9 after restarting.

So does F9 work? You have to tap it very quickly on reboot.

    it did and it shows:

    Continue to windows 8

    Troubleshoot

    Turn off your PC

I tried several solutions on Troubleshoot

Refresh: hard drive locked. Unlock the drive and try again

    Reset: required partition is missing

Advanced: system restore does not list day before I upgraded to windows 8.1

EDIT: I saw this link Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8

would that work if I booted from the flash drive?

the [Copy from recovery partition] shows and says I need at least 16GB which is about the size of the recovery partition on this pc

MORE EDIT: The recovery flash drive would not work. However, I found another option right here http://www.asus.com/supportonly/ASUS_Backtracker/

Great news, I have successfully restored my device to factory defaults!

To anyone having this problem, just download ASUS Backtracker and have a flash drive of at least 16GB in size

    Dear All,
I am also facing similar problem on my Sony Vaio T series UltraBook,
I have upgraded the operating system from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 six months before.
now I am trying to perform Factory restore It says " required drive partition is missing"

Browsed this Thread extensively and set the correct recovery partition using Reagentc Tool.
but no help, seems SIW2 Tool is the best choice to recovery Windows 8.
But all the download links are broken, Will someone please share the new links for the tool.

Also I am downloading KYHI's recovery enviroment, I am not sure how does it works
    will give it a try.

Thanks SIW2 and KYHI, you guys are doing preety good job.

right click start flag > command prompt(admin)
    type> diskpart
    type> select disk 0
    type> list volume

You will see a lot of volumes without drive letters assigned.. Find the 10-20GB volume number

type> select volume # (# being the volume number without a drive letter)
    type> assign letter=R

You can now browse thru R and find Install.wim or Install.swm(s) - those are your Factory recovery Images..

Note: Assuming the install* file(s) are on "R" and in a folder called "RecoveryImage"
Note: Change "drive letter" and "folder name" to suit your system setup

    type> Reagentc /Setosimage /Path R:\RecoveryImage /Target C:\Windows /Index 1
