WIN 8.1, Hidden folders shown on reboot.

Sometimes when I restart or shut down and restart my system, the folder option somehow are being changed. I have to go to the folder options in control panel and reset the options to default. this will correct the condition until the next time restarted. I believe the condition existed before the update from 8 to 8.1.
I searched through the groups here, and could not find any like condition or repair. I was wondering if this has happened to someone else, and if there is a correction for it. I seem to remember a registry edit that I saw somewhere.

    Thanks all,
    William

Hello William, and welcome to Eight Forums.

As a test, turn of syncing your settings to see if that may be the cause if this is for a Microsoft account.
In the mean time, if you like, you could add the context menu in step 2 or 3 in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below to make it easy to toggle on/off to show hidden files.

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

    Thanks Brink

I added the file to the windows folder and added the registry keys. I could not find the Sync option. I do not sign in with a microsoft account. I was wondering while this is going on the desktop is also affected. I don't know if the fix I just applied will help in that regard also.
I will run my system as usual for the next few days and see what happens.

    Thank you for input,
    William

You might have the setting: "Remember each folder's view settings" checked. Change folder views and behavior

That setting is no longer available in Windows 8.

This is where I go to fix this when it occurs. I choose "restore defaults".

As a test, create a new user account to see if it happens in that account as well.

If not, then you might consider to use that account instead.
