    Administrator Rights error messages

Win 8.1 Pro x64, single-user computer. I don't know if it started with updating from 8 to 8.1 in December, but roughly since then I've getting been a fair number of error messages while saving or changing a program's default setting, saying directly or indirectly that I need administrator rights to do the operation. My user account is Standard and shows me as Administrator, and everywhere I look says I am Administrator with full administrator rights. Yet, as the screenshots below show, I now can't save to the system drive (C:\) and can't even uncheck the default file manager setting within the XYplorer, my normal file manager. The other day I couldn't save an extracted folder under in its intended program folder in \Program Files (x86), something I did numerous times with new versions of the same program under Win 8 and Win 7. What is the way to overcome this? Thanks,

    Hello Highstream,

You might see if using "Run as administrator" on the program will allow you to afterwards.

    Hope this helps for now,

I had set the programs to run as admin in properties, but that didn't solve it. Plus, it seems like I'm having to do that a lot with 8.1, much more than with the occasional in 8. Take Ownership appears to work, but it sure seems like a long way around something that wasn't a problem before. And it means I have to 'take ownership' of every drive and folder, though it can be done by directory (C:\Program Files ran for close to five minutes). Was something changed in 8.1 or with its installation process, or is this entirely local?

With the XYplorer example, it doesn't run with Properties set to Admin rights - it was already - but Run as Admin from context menu does work. However, the latter doesn't work with the icon in the Taskbar because Properties isn't an option there. Screwy.

You can edit the Shortcut for those items and add "Run as Administrator" to them - Then re-create the Taskbar items from the new shortcuts.

I think you misunderstand - or maybe I do. Setting "run as admin" under properties, either the program file or the desktop icon, does not solve the problem; only doing it from the context menu seems to make the problem disappear. Before writing the last post, I created a new desktop icon, set compatibility to 'run as admin' (properties), and then copied and pinned it to the taskbar (left side). Unfortunately, that doesn't cut it.
