If I right click on desktop I get this:
An attempt to delay-load a .dll or get a function address in a delay-loaded .dll failed.

I ran sfc /scannow a few times-no luck.
Any help appreciated.

It is due to a .dll got corrupted or deleted. You need to find out which .dll it is that is failing to load. Anything in the Error Logs in Administrator Tools > Event Viewer?

This is in the event logs many times:

A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 70. The Windows SChannel error state is 105

And I tried it and it did not work for me. Just my luck of course.

I ran what you suggested again and it said it fixed the component store corruption was repaired? Ran SFC and it said it fixed a corrupted file.

The only issue I have left is the dll delay error if I right click on the desktop and select either "screen resolution or Personalize".
So I don't know what that's all about. Everything else seems fine.
I am tempted to reinstall Win 8 but I am a musician and I record at home. I have a zillion plug ins and programs that I have to re-authorize, which is a major hassle.
I may have no choice though.

Thank you for your help

Anything in Event Viewer? Before you do the reinstall, if you do not have a USB pocket drive like the Toshiba Canvio 1TB, get one to back up documents, music, pictures, videos. If you need more then 1TB, you may have to use a NAS.

Then do a wipe & reinstall. I started to get smart and after I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 with the updates and Office 2k13. I did a Image Backup with Clonezilla to my NAS. I also keep an image of my Xubuntu 12.04 64-bit that I will swap back and forth between.

I am starting to really find that Microsoft is causing more bad then good with a few of the latest updates. At this point, I am pretty much going to stick with Xubuntu from this point forward.
