    Freezing

Any mouse activity near the action edges of the desktop will cause my computer to freeze for 10-50 seconds at a time. Anything that involves bringing the metro interface into view, except for the windows key, will cause this problem. Mouse in bottom left corner, freeze. Mouse to the top left, freeze. Try to drag desktop down from the top, freeze. Fresh install has not fixed the problem. Suggestions? It is pretty unusable right now. Thanks.

The generic "built in" Windows 8 mouse drivers appear to work best for now until some Windows 8 drivers are made from the manufacture of your mouse. First try uninstalling the RAT7 mouse drivers, assuming that you installed them?

I had the same problem with my Logitech G9 gaming mouse when I installed the Logitech drivers, even in compatibility mode the pointer and screen would freeze when I put it up against the left window, same as you. The generic Windows 8 drivers are working well for now.

You can adjust your pointer's speed by using the mouse options in the control panel.

I unplugged my Logitech G15 keyboard and the problems went away immediately. Plug it back in and the problems start right back up. Sounds like Logitech and Windows 8 have a lot of work to do to be ready for prime time. I haven't found any drivers yet for it that help but for now a different keyboard is my solution.

Yes I later discovered that my G15 keyboard was causing the mouse freeze up problems. I tried messing with the HID driver to no avail. Using a different keyboard was the only way to fix the problem. Too bad I didn't noticed your response until after I found the problem at the Logitech forum. Thanks for reporting your fix.

I have a similar freeze problem when moving the mouse to any of the 4 "hot" corners. The problem is very intermittent in nature. I also suspect my Logitech G15 keyboard is the cause. I have tried both legacy (lgps306_x64.exe) and current (lgs820_x64.exe) Logitech drivers without any change to the problem.

    Fix for G15 keyboard problem.

Apparently the problem HID driver was at the top of the list of three HID drivers in Device manager>Keyboards which is the one causing this problem. I needed to first uninstall this driver to confirm that it fixes the freezing problem.

After finding the problem HID driver by uninstalling it "it was the first one on the list of three,". I right clicked Keyboard in Device Manager and told it to scan for hardware changes which reinstalled the bad driver. At that point I right clicked on the problem driver and chose "update driver software" did the manual install method "Browse my computer for driver Software", then instead of browsing for it choose, "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my machine" at that point there is a choice of two drivers, one says " HID Keyboard device" which you don't want. The second one simply says "HID compliant device" choose the second one on the list.

After Windows updates the bad driver it vanishes from the list and opens up an expanded list of "Human interface devices" which is where I assume the new driver was installed too. This fixed the mouse pointer problem completely.

The fix holds, and even after a reboot the old bad HID driver does not reinstall itself in the Keyboard HID driver list. I would imagine that if you installed the Logitech driver for the G15 or if you unplug the keyboard you may need to go through the procedure a second time but I haven't tested this out yet. Best to wait for the updated Logitech driver for Windows 8.

Let me know if this fix works for you.
