I am not able to do a search in Windows 8 on my Computer for documents.

For instance. Searching for a PDF document that is saved under the title "Lanolin". I type in "La" in the search and get a number of documents but not Lanolin. I type the full Name and get no results. I Close the search fundtion and I am looking right at the document that the search tells me is not there.

Is there something else that one must do so that the search function functions?

Mike

Hi Dave,
Thank you for the fast reply. I tried *.pdf and I got about 70 pdf documents and nt the one I was looking at. then I tried l.pdf and was told there was not results.

Perhaps there is something wrong with my Version. For insance the charm bar was always jumping in when I did not want it to. Nos that I am actually trying to get it on the Screen and moviing the pointer against the right side of the Screen, it does nto Show up. I have to repeatedly move the pointer in and out of the right side of the Screen...all up and down it until the charm bar Shows up.

Does it Sound like I Need to down load a fix or a patch or something?

Honestly consider upgrading to 8.1, my search charm in 8 would not find files or applications all the time and since I have upgraded to 8.1 all that has seemed to be fixed. That is my personal experience.

While you work out how to deal with windows search, if you need to find the file try a specialized search program, like Agent Ransack - Free File Searching Utility . Never failed me, and easy to use. Example attached. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip 4wd.

I am happy to say that over the weekend I downloaded windows 8.1 and the search works fine now. I am happy to see that it even looks in the documents to find the given search term.
