Easy way to clean Registry??

  1. #11

All those registry cleaners do is to remove unused entries. Uninstalling some programs using their own "Uninstallers" can and do leave valid entries that will not be removed or changed by any cleaning programs. After cleaning with those programs, go to regedit, search for entries for uninstalled program and you shall be amazed how much of it is left. Properly uninstalling with good third party uninstaller that cleans up after is best choice. Uninstalling a program thru windows "Programs and Features" just runs uninstaller for it and does little or nothing in the way of moping up.

Guys this issue has been around for a while. If you uninstall a program that has put Icons in the Notifications area down by the clock, they don't always get removed when you uninstall that program. It's not just Norton that's does it. The link in post no 2 is the fix for that without having to use a registry cleaner. You can set them to "Hide Icon and notifications" but if you've uninstalled a lot of OEM bloat you get left with a lot of dead icons in your customize list. I can see why the OP wants to clean it out. I've done what's posted in post no 2 several times on Windows 7 in the past.

Some of the problems with icons left in notification area can be solved by shutting that program down before uninstallation. I got in the habit of doing that long time ago. Taking them out of autostart and even shutting their services and/or process, beforehand helps too.

I want it removed from my PC, not "hidden" hahaha #David Bailey

If you have not used the Norton tool you are in for surprises. Better get that done.

So is the icon problem fixed ?
yes I used the option in the #2 post #whs

See i thought that too, until I saw that Norton wasn't even installed other then OEM, and Hamatchi, seems to keep programs there for "later" use of some reason or another, but as stated that #2 post works exactly how i wanted it #CountMike

Thanks guys, hopefully this solves other people's issues as well

Registry "cleaners' are overrated and mostly unnecessary, but I do use CCleaner since I'm constantly installing, testing and uninstalling applications.
